The Search For Stacy Peterson Continues

The Illinois State Police (ISP) have returned to West Central Illinois for a third attempt at finding Stacey Peterson in as many months. Police investigators and dive teams spent five hours Monday, August 23, in Knox County lake, following up on a tip in the disappearance of Stacy Peterson. Earlier this month, investigators searched in rural Knox County and investigators also searched a rural area near Peoria in June in connection with the same tip Click here to read about the June search.

Investigators searched the waters of Lake Storey following up on a tip concerning the disappearance of Stacy Peterson, the fourth wife of former Chicago area policeman Drew Peterson. Several divers searched a stretch of shoreline in Lake Storey near Galesburg. The small lake is just off Route 150. Assisting the ISP were members of the Galesburg Police Department dive team and the Department of Natural Resources.

''This is part of the Stacy Peterson investigation'', confirmed Illinois State Police spokesman Tom Burek.'' We're looking for evidence to follow up on a lead'.''The investigation lasted from roughly 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., said Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Tom Burek. ''The specifics of the lead, I can't really discuss. It's the same lead we've been working on since late spring'', Burek said after a police briefing on the search Monday in Galesburg.

Burek told WQAD, News 8 that ''nothing of significance'' was found in or near the lake.''You don't always hit a homerun'', Burek said. ''We're going to stay moving forward with this.'' For now, ISP has no immediate plans to return to Knox County.
Drew and Stacey Peterson in happier times
Investigators have also followed several leads in the Chicago area, conducting searches in the waters near the couple’s home. Stacy Peterson was a 23 year old mother of two young children when she disappeared in October 2007.No one has been charged in her disappearance, although Drew Peterson,56, is the only suspect in the death.

Peterson is also facing murder charges in the death of his third wife, Kathleen Savio.Savio's death initially was ruled an accidental drowning, but her body was exhumed and re-examined in 2007 after the disappearance of Peterson's fourth wife, Stacy. The onetime Bolingbrook, Illinois, police sergeant denies any wrongdoing in either case.

Drew Peterson pleaded not guilty to the murder charges and remains held in the Will County Jail on $20 million bond. That trial was scheduled to begin in July, but has been postponed, possibly for months, while the Prosecution appeals a decision by the trial judge to the IL Supreme Court. Circuit Judge Stephen White issued a ruling that keeps some witness statements out of court as hearsay.

  1. You have quite an informative blog here, I found you from a comment you left at “Legal Pub’s” blog. in regards to another Peterson woman’s body being found.
Being a bit of a true crime buff myself and from Illinois (Chi-town burbs) I figure I stop by and noodle around a bit.

As for the Stacy Peterson case I have not followed it in dept all that much, mostly because I figure this case will never be solved being that Drew is a cop and there is to much emphasis with the “blue code of silence” amongst our law enforcement these days…as to why he got away with the murder of his last wife.
If not for the media frenzy they probably would have left this case go away and took Drew’s story as fact. This guy Drew Peterson is a stone cold sociopath with a badge and a gun, and the sooner that other law enforcement realize that their code of silence does more harm than good by giving good cops a bad name, and can actually save lives in the long run…cases like this will never be solved.
A guy like Drew is especially dangerous because of his training, he knows how to dispose of a body in a way that the general public would not. I would expect that Stacy was disposed of in a watery grave as this removes most all forensic evidence, amplifies decay, and makes for a hard disposal site to find. I also think the blue barrel was a decoy that Drew knew would waste time with LE’s search, should it get that far if his story was not believed.

BTW, My sister participated in one of the searches for Stacy, I can’t say which one or exactly when, I do know it was near a park with a large swampy area that was behind some kind of retail store. She said that people in the search were concerned that Stacy may have been buried beneath the retail store as it was under construction at the time of Stacy’s disappearance. Having an extensive background with construction I find this unlikely, as the general public does not realize how much digging goes on throughout the construction process, especially with the concrete floor. Drew would have not had the time to dig a deep grave and any imperfections with the ground would have been investigated during the preparation and before the pour of the floor, especially soft spots. Not to mention the plumbers who dig trenches throughout the area for sewer and water before the floor is poured… unless Drew had a blueprint of the project he would have been taking a big chance on where he chose to dig.

Again, good blog you have here and I will stop by again

  2. Hello Video Guy! Thanks for stopping by and letting me know you were here. I really appreciate that, pull up a comfy chair and read away and please comment whenever you feel like it.

I really enjoy reading at the Legal Pub, you never know what they are going to come up with over there, but most often they make me think and laugh at the same time.I like that combination.

You know, I have tried to follow the Drew Peterson case but haven't felt compelled to write about it....until the searches for Stacey started getting close to my home. That is awesome your sister helped on a search. I feel so bad for the family of missing persons.....it must feel like torture not knowing what has happened to a loved one.

I agree it doesn't seem likely Drew would bury Stacy in a construction area. There are so many isolated areas and bodies of water in IL that he could put her that wouldn't be so risky. I agree about the blue barrel being a decoy. Once I heard the blue barrel felt warm I thought... no way....unless his brother was on stand by while he killed her. I have been with people when they died and it doesn't take long for the body to cool down.

I had hoped if there was a change of venue for Peterson's trial, that it would come close enough to me so that I could attend the trial and blog about it. The 80 miles to Joliet is too far to mess with.
Thanks again for stopping by and your kind comments. :)
